i !<3 garmin
strapped on my forerunner to take with me, mainly as a timer and speedometer -- i knew the accursed thing would lose track of the sky enough to be useless as an odometer.
i left it on the patio for 10 minutes as i dressed, it gave up looking for sats and threw up a "are you inside?" message. then another 5 minutes by the curb to get sat lock. ugh.
and then, the kicker: the default biking screens HAVE NO SPEEDOMETER. they have a trip ave. speed (!) and some giant timer that is not time elapsed, but something else (!!) but no fargen speedometer. wtf garmin?! WTF!?!
the ride was less fun this time, probably since yesterday was not a rest day, and because i had the garmin, plus a lot of other junk on the mind. instead of noodling around in ascension's hood, i took a right up to ralston trail and took canada to edgewood, then back up ralston trail and home. there is truly a lot of poison oak all over my ride, it sucks. coming off the footbridge/overpass/horse toilet on teh ralston trail return trip, i realized that if i had a brake failure i'd head-over-heels right into a poison oak forest. so: bike control.

your patio is indoors but the curb thing doth sucketh. The best reception I get i s out at the stop sign. At work I still take 4 minutes to acquire on some days.
The odd thing is, sometimes I can get signal inside my house.
it is performance like this which strongly demotivates me from buying a garmin, even if their customer service is really good (it is).
