too bad i swore off alcohol purchases for the next month.

I don't see the conflict. You did not say
"For a month" With which we are to assume a lunar month thanks to the irregularities of our calender.
You did not say
"For the remaining portion of this month". Which would be the rest of July.
You said
"For the next month" The next month is August. Thus, you can fill your stores and prepare for such a harsh month.
it is the filling of my stores which prompted such a month of no buying of liquor.
i have no more stores to fill! i had to throw food out of the fridge to make room for beer.
on the upside, i had a bottle of pliny tonight. oh man oh man. pliny, right here in my home!
